Several students and alumni of a top school in Chennai have accused a teacher of making sexual advances.
The incident came to light after several students shared screenshots of his interactions with them on Sunday night alleging that it was part of his general behaviour to speak using sexual innuendos. The students also alleged that the accused had appeared for online classes half-naked wearing only a towel and passed inappropriate comments on girl students.
Alumni of Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan School (PSBBS) have written a letter to Dean, Director and Correspondent of PSBB group of schools Sheela Rajendra demanding immediate suspension of the accused pending investigation.
School responds
The school has released a statement, saying the school has “zero tolerance” against behaviour that harms the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of its students.
The school rebuffed allegations of inaction against the accused teacher, saying that “the management has not come across any such complaints (against the teacher) in the past.” The school further stated that it is willing to address the issue in a fair, free and transparent manner.
The screenshots have gone viral online drawing the attention of senior politicians including DMK MP Kanimozhi.
“The sexual harassment allegations against a commerce teacher in PSBB School, Chennai have been shocking. An inquiry should be conducted and action must be taken against those who are involved including school authorities who failed to act against the complaints from students. I promise to take this to the concerned authorities,” Kanimozhi tweeted.
