A video of a man strangling a patient on a hospital bed is being circulated on social media with a claim that a the patient was COVID-19 and the incident happened in India.
The caption of the Facebook post read: “#हमारे मोदी जी के चमचे कोरोना मरीज को स्वर्ग भेजते हुए…!! #मैं बार बार बोल रहा हु कोरोना के नाम पर लोगो को मारा जा रहा है कृपया सतर्क रहें है…!”.
(Translation- Our Modi Ji’s followers sending Corona patient to heaven!! I am repeatedly saying people are being murdered in the name of Coronavirus, please be cautious.)

When we extracted keyframes from the video and put them through Reverse Image Search, we found a report published on May 19, 2020, by a Bangladeshi news organisation, Sokaler Songbad, featuring a snapshot of the video. The headline of the report in Bangla can be loosely translated to, ‘Faridpur: The old man was killed by suffocation in the hospital’.
As per the report, a fight started between two parties in Bangladesh’s Fardipur district over a children’s cricket match where an elderly man, Munsur Mollah (60) got injured and was taken to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex for treatment. He was later choked to death by one Sirajul Islam in the hospital.
Further, we found another report by a Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo, uploaded on May 12, 2020. The headline of the report can be loosely translated to, ‘An old man was killed in a clash between young people over a game of cricket’.
Moreover, we found a report by the Karnataka State Police stating that the video where a person is strangling an elderly person in a hospital bed, does not show a COVID-19 patient and the video is not related to Karnataka state. It further mentions that it is an old video from Bangladesh.
Thereby, with all the above information, it can be said that an old video of a man killing an elderly patient on a hospital bed in Bangladesh is being falsely shared as being from India.
