FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found it to be fake.

To begin our investigation, we searched for related media reports but could not find any report or official order corroborating the claim.

On April 20, 2021, Prime Minister had said that lockdown should be the last option in the country. PM Modi said, in today’s situation, the country has to be saved from lockdown. He also requested state governments to use lockdown as the last option.

We also found a report dated April 30, 2021, by the Economic Times with the headline, “Centre rules out possibility of national lockdown.”

According to the report, the home ministry while issuing fresh guidelines, ruled out a possibility of national lockdown. The ministry has also directed states and Union Territories to consider containment measures suggested by the health ministry.

Digging further, we also found a tweet, dated  April 30, 2021, by government’s nodal information agency – the Press Information Bureau (PIB), in which they refuted the viral claim and called it FAKE.

Thus, from the above information, it is clear that the viral news graphic claiming that a complete lockdown will be imposed in India from May 3 is FAKE.
