FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

Ashish Yechury passed away in the early hours of April 22 at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital after a two-week battle with the infection whereas the viral photo was taken at a crematorium in Delhi on April 21, 2021.

We performed a Reverse Image Search and found the image on the Reuters website. As per the website, the image was documented on April 21, 2021, in New Delhi by photographer Adnan Abidi.

The caption with the image reads, “Relatives wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) mourn a man, who died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), next to his funeral pyre at a crematorium in New Delhi, India April 21, 2021. REUTERS/Adnan Abidi.”

Therefore, this proves that an unrelated image showing a family of a deceased, mourning at a crematorium in New Delhi is being shared with a false claim.
