Battle For States 2021: Will Political Melodies Speak Louder Than Speeches?

Date:

This election season of 2021, political parties are holding back to back rallies on the field and leaving no stone unturned to guarantee a win. But simultaneously, another battle cry can be heard loud and clear and it is on digital media. Across Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Kerala, songs, slogans, jingles are being played to woo the voter. Who has the best campaign melodies? Have a look and decide for yourself.

WEST BENGAL

BJP has rehashed the popular Spanish number Bella Ciao from the trending Netflix series ‘Money Heist’. BJP’s version is titled ‘Pishi Jao’ translates to ‘Aunty Go’ referring to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

‘Pishi Jao’ salvo from Bengal BJP came in the wake of TMC’s Khela Hobe slogan that loosely translates to ‘Game On’ which became an instant hit.

The Bengali chartbuster ‘Tumpa Sona’ was rolled out by CPI(M). It is a spoof of Tumpa Shona — a hit about a jilted groom finding solace in a woman called Tumpa.

ASSAM

In Assam, the opposition Congress has launched the party’s official campaign song. The video mainly promotes Assam Congress’ 5 guarantees as follows: bringing a law to nullify implementation of CAA, 5 lakh jobs, Rs 2000 monthly aid to every housewife of the State, 200 units of free electricity to every household in the State and raising the daily wage of tea garden workers up to Rs 365.

KERALA

The ruling LDF wants to highlight the way it has been battling Covid-19 and the flood situation. It recently released its official campaign song by the award-winning playback singer Sithara Krishnakumar.

The UDF has released the campaign song for the assembly elections. The song ‘Naadu Nannakanai’ was sung by the much-loved singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi with a message- UDF for a better Kerala.

The NDA also brought out a theme song, ‘Puthiya Keralam Modikkoppam’ translating to New Kerala is with Modi.

TAMIL NADU

In Tamil Nadu, the incumbent AIADMK campaign song seeks to mobilise the voter base by underlining the administration’s achievements during its term.

The MK Stalin-led DMK has released a campaign song in anticipation of victory. This melody is designed to leverage Stalin’s charisma and political heritage.
