PM Modi’s Bangladesh Visit LIVE Updates: India & Bangladesh Sign 5 MoUs To Enhance Bilateral Ties

PM Modi during his last day of visit to Bangladesh held delegation-level talks with Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

India and Bangladesh signed five MoUs, further cementing the diplomatic relations between the two nations. Apart from this, PM Modi and PM Hasina decided to celebrate December 6, the day on which India formally recognized Bangladesh, as ‘Maitri Diwas,'” said Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

Foreign Secretary also informed that, India and Bangladesh also spoke about Motor Vehicle Agreement and nuclear cooperation. The Teesta water sharing issue was also discussed, the Indian side also requested for early finalization of a draft for sharing of water of Feni River.

Both the countries also plans to inaugurate new New Passenger Train ‘Mitali Express’ between Dhaka and New Jalpaiguri.

Earlier, PM Modi handed over a representational key of 109 life-saving ambulances to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina.

Under India’s Vaccine Maitri initiative, PM Modi also assured Bangladesh PM of India’s gift of 1.2 million COVID vaccine doses.

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina presented a gold & a silver coin released on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to PM Modi.

Besides, PM Modi on Saturday offered prayers at a Matua temple in Bangladesh’s Orakandi, the birthplace of Hindu mystic figure and Matua community’s spiritual guru Harichand Thakur.

PM Modi also addressed the Matua Community here, saying, “Both India and Bangladesh want to see the world progressing through their own progress. Both nations want to see stability, love, and peace in the world instead of instability, terror, and unrest.”

Earlier today, he also offered prayers at the Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Ishwaripur, Satkhira district in the country.

Dedicated to Goddess Kali, Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in Ishwaripur — a village in Shyam Nagar, Upazila of Satkhira. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, scattered across India and neighbouring countries.

On Friday, PM Modi said, “On the event of 50 years of Indo-Bangladesh partnership, I’d like to extend an invite to 50 entrepreneurs of Bangladesh. They should get to associate with our innovation ecosystem and meet venture capitalists. We will learn from them and they will learn from us as well. For the youth of Bangladesh, I announce the Swarna Jayanti scholarship for youths of Bangladesh.”

He even mentioned, “Today in Bangladesh, the blood of those who fought for their liberation & the blood of Indian soldiers are flowing together. This blood will form such a relationship that will not break down under any type of pressure &will not fall prey to any kind of diplomacy.”


Prime Minister Modi arrived on Friday in Bangladesh on a two-day visit to the nation, his first tour to a foreign country since the COVID-19 outbreak last year. He was received by his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
