FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be fake.

On putting the picture through Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture in a report by the New Straits Times website published on October 28, 2020. The headline of the report read, “Huge anti-France rally in Bangladesh as Macron backlash widens.”

As per the report, thousands of protesters marched through the Bangladeshi capital on October 27, 2020, in the biggest anti-France rally after President Emmanuel Macron defended cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad. It further stated that Muslims across the world have reacted furiously to Macron’s robust defence of the right to mock religion following the murder of a French schoolteacher who had shown his pupils cartoons of the prophet.

Further, we found the same picture on the EPA website published on October 27, 2020. The caption of the picture read, “Protest in Bangladesh against Macron’s comments over Prophet Muhammad cartoons.”

As per the description of the picture, members of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh Party, took part in a march towards the French Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh on October 27, 2020. The protest was held in response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments following the recent beheading of a teacher in France after he had shown cartoons of the Prophet in class. Macron vowed his country would not give up publishing such cartoons.

Hence, with the help of the above information, is clear that this is an old picture of a protest against French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments in Dhaka and hence, the post is fake.
