Tirath Singh Rawat Takes Oath As Uttarakhand CM

Date:

Tirath Singh Rawat on Wednesday took oath as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

PM Modi has congratulated BJP MP Tirath Singh Rawat for taking oath as the chief minister of Uttarakhand. “Congratulations to Shri Tirath Singh Rawat on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He brings with him vast administrative and organisational experience. I am confident under his leadership the state will continue to scale new heights of progress,” he tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Tirath Singh Rawat, Lok Sabha MP from Garhwal, was elected as leader of BJP legislature party paving the way for him to take over as chief minister of Uttarakhand, a day after Trivendra Singh Rawat stepped down from the top post.

After the meeting of the BJP legislature party, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced that Tirath Singh Rawat will be his successor.

Shortly after the announcement, Tirath Singh told the media, “I thank PM, HM & party chief who trusted me, a mere party worker who comes from a small village. I’d never imagined that I’d reach here. We’ll make all efforts to meet people’s expectations & take forward work done in last 4 yrs.”

Trivendra Singh Rawat’s resignation came after BJP general secretary in-charge of Uttarakhand Dushyant Kumar Gautam and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, submitted a report to the BJP’s central leadership detailing the rebellion in the state unit of the party, said sources.

Rawat tendered his resignation after meeting governor Baby Rani Maurya on Tuesday, a year before Uttarkhand is scheduled to go to the polls.

Notably, the BJP swept the elections in 2017, winning 57 seats in the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly. Congress, on the other hand, won just 11 seats.
