The recent Tom Cruise deepfakes have been trending and the creator’s TikTok account grew from 136k followers and 334k likes on 2/25 to 385k followers and 1.1M likes in just seven days!
These deepfakes appear to have been created by cleverly face-swapping Tom Cruise’s facial features on an impersonator having a strong physical resemblance to the Hollywood star. The face-swapping job is well done, with skillfully crafted lighting and pixelation corrections. The impersonator’s matching hairstyle and voice imitation skills add to the believability.
FakeNetAI’s State of the Art deepfake detection software is powered by a machine learning model trained on thousands of original and deepfake videos and is able to detect deepfakes with over 95% accuracy.

Since the government of India banned the TikTok app in June last year, we saw the TikTok video using VPN.
In our investigation, we extracted keyframes from the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to a video on YouTube, which was uploaded in March 2021.

All the information put together here proves the video is edited and it is a deepfake technology that could be used to spread misinformation.
