FACT CHECK

We fact-checked the above post and found that the claim is fake.

We ran a Reverse Image Search on both the pictures and found that both the pictures are old and irrelevant to the earthquake in Tajikistan.

Image 1

We ran a Reverse Image Search on the first picture and found the picture in a report by CNBC dated January 24, 2020. The headline of the report read, ‘At least 18 people dead after strong earthquake strikes eastern Turkey’.

The caption of the picture read, ‘Damaged buildings in Sursuru neighborhood are seen after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted eastern Turkish province of Elazig on January 24, 2020. Search and rescue teams sent to the region’.

The incident was covered by other news organisations as well. Read reports here and here.

We ran another Reverse Image Search on the second picture and found the picture in a report by BBC dated December 26, 2018. The headline of the report read, ‘Mount Etna: New 4.8-magnitude earthquake hits Sicily’.

According to the report, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake has hit Sicily near Europe’s most active volcano, Mount Etna, injuring at least 28 people.

More reports can be seen here and here.

Hence, based on the above information, we can say that both the pictures are old.
