A picture post is doing the rounds on social media suggesting that legendary cricketer, Kapil Dev, has spoken out in connection with the tweets cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli which they posted in response to Rihanna’s ‘Why aren’t we talking about this’ tweet. Internationally acclaimed singer Rihanna had recently tweeted in support of the farmers with regards to the ongoing protest.
The text on the picture in Hindi read: “कपिल देव का बड़ा बयान: अमित शाह के बेटे जय शाह के दबाव में आकर क्रिकेटर दे रहे किसानों के खिलाफ़ ट्वीट”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be FAKE.
Firstly, on putting the picture through Reverse Image Search along with relevant keywords, we found the video of the same event from where the screenshot had been extracted.
The photo was taken from a conference dated October 2, 2019, when Kapil Dev resigned as BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee chief.
We also found a similar picture in a report by NDTV dated October 2, 2019. The headline reads, ‘Kapil Dev Resigns As Cricket Advisory Committee Chief After Being Served Conflict Of Interest Notice: Report’.
Further, we put the above statement through a Google search along with keywords such as ‘कपिल देव’, ‘जय शाह’, etc, and did not find any authentic report to prove that Kapil Dev made the above statement.
When a public figure makes a statement, it is usually there on their official website and social media handles. We scanned Kapil Dev’s Twitter handle but did not find anything remotely close to the statement in question.
While there was a tweet related to the ongoing tiff between the farmers’ and the government but no mention of Jay Shah can be seen.
In conclusion, upon analysing our findings, it is safe to say that the statement in question is being falsely attributed to Kapil Dev.
