Fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi’s sister Purvi Modi and her husband Mayank Mehta have turned approver for assisting in confiscation of assets in the Punjab National Bank(PNB) scam case. These include 2 flats in New York, 1 in London, 1 in Mumbai along with balances in 2 Swiss Bank accounts and a bank account in Mumbai according to the Enforcement Directorate(ED). The assets will all total upto to Rs.579 crore in the bank fraud case.

Purvi Modi and her husband had filed applications before the court stating that they wanted to distance themselves from Nirav Modi. The couple also said they and could provide important evidence relevant to him and his dealings. Purvi is a Belgian national while her husband is a British national and both say their personal professional lives have come to a standstill after the fraudulent activities Nirav Modi has been associated with.

They sought to be examined as witnesses in the two cases of money laundering filed by the ED and offered to provide evidence which would be important to prove Nirav and others were guilty. Nirav Modi and his associates have been accused of committing a fraud of over Rs.6,498.20 crore on the Punjab National Bank by issuance of fraudulent Letters of Undertaking.
Purvi and Mayank are not the prime accused and have been named as co-accused in two ED cases. Since his arrest, Nirav Modi has been lodged in Wandsworth Prison in south-west London since March 2019 while India is seeking his extradition.
