As the pandemic hit the country last year, In March a decision was taken to shut all the educational institutes, including schools and colleges, to protect the children from contracting the deadly virus.
But with the coming new year, months after the shutdown of schools across the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs allowed the gradual reopening of schools with several Covid-19 safety guidelines in place.
Most of the states are only reopening the schools for higher classes such as classes 9 to 12 as these students have to appear for the board exams set to take place in the first half of 2021.
States reopening schools from January 2021
Bihar
The government of Bihar has announced that the schools in the states will reopen from January 4 for students of classes 9 to 12. Apart from the schools in the state, the government is also reopening coaching centres, degree colleges, medical colleges, and engineering colleges.
All Educational institutions will reopen in Bihar from today adhering to COVID-specific guidelines. Schools from Class 9th onwards, colleges and coaching institutes are permitted to allow only 50 percent of students.

Puducherry

Agartala
The Tripura government has decided to reopen upper primary to college classes and reopen hostels from January 4.
Rajasthan
The government of Rajasthan will most likely reopen the schools in the state for the students of classes 9 to 12 in the first week of January, as per media reports. It is also speculated that the schools will reopen on a trial basis initially.
Karnataka
The schools in Karnataka have reopened schools from January 1 for students of classes 6 to 12. Students will also have to show a signed consent form by their parents, allowing them to attend regular classes in school premises.
Assam
The government of Assam reopened the schools in the state from January 1 for students of all classes. The Assam government has decided to resume the normal functioning of all educational institutes from January as the Covid-19 situation in the state is under control.
All the states have issued different sets of SOPs to prevent the spread of the virus.
