With many states in South India grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic, politics dominated much of the happenings in the region on Thursday.
Let’s take look at the major developments down South:
1. Karnataka bans entry of residents from 5 states

After having witnessed high number of imported cases from other states, Karnataka on Thursday banned the entry of residents from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
The Law Minister announced that this could be enforced for the next 10-15 days.
The authorities have been facing the ire of air passengers who have attempted to escape from the airport and have refused to pay for the paid quarantine facilities.
2. TSRTC buses exempt from night curfew
Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao has permitted the state road transport corporation buses to operate even during night time and granted them exemption from the night curfew.
As per the order of the Government of India, a night curfew from 7 pm to 7 am shall continue to exist. However, in the case of these buses, the state government has decided to grant a waiver.
3. Centre and TN govt failed in COVID-19
DMK Chief MK Stalin accused the Union government and the Tamil Nadu state government of grave mismanagement of the crisis emanating from COVID-19.
He also accused the government of mishandling the economic crisis and the large number of jobs that have been lost and industries that have been shut down.
4. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s one year rule has been a total failure: Naidu
Former CM of Andhra Pradesh N Chandra Babu Naidu said that the one year rule of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been a complete failure and wreaked havoc amongst all sections of the population.
He accused the government of having a high handed approach and a dictatorial way of functioning.
He pointed out that many industries have shifted out of the state and the farmers are in a state of despair and the youth continue to remain unemployed.
5. Monsoon to hit Kerala by June 1: IMD
The IMD has stated that the monsoon will hit the coast of Kerala by June 1.
This comes as a sign of relief to everyone in the country, especially the farmers who are dependent on these rains during the harvest season.
