Kollam murder case: Postmortem of snake underway, its DNA to be extracted

Date:

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala DGP Loknath Behera on Tuesday informed that a post-mortem of a snake is being conducted and its DNA will be extracted soon to probe into a death of a woman, which turned out to pre-planned murder by her husband, who purchased the snake allegedly to kill his wife.

The DGP called the case “peculiar” and said the investigation has to be carried out in a scientific manner. The DNA test of the snake will also be conducted in Hyderabad or Chennai as Kerala has no such facility. “For the first time in a case, we are going to conduct a DNA test of the dead snake that was used to kill the woman as part of the investigation. It has to be carried out in a laboratory outside the state probably in Hyderabad or Chennai since we do not have the facility here. This is necessary to furnish evidence,” Behra said told media.

While the postmortem of the snake is underway, its DNA will be extracted soon, the DGP said.

He has directed the investigation officials to file charge sheet in the case within 90 days.

The police team is investigating the death of 25-year-old woman Uthra, arrested the husband Sooraj and his accomplice on Sunday after the duo reportedly broke down during the interrogation and confessed to the crime.

According to police, the incident took place on May 6 night at Uthra’s house when Sooraj, with a pre-planned motive, brought a snake with him, hid it inside a bag and threw it on his wife, who was sleeping.
