Fact Check: False claim attached to picture of a boy, half-submerged in water, as aftermath of cyclone Amphan

Date:

A picture of a boy standing on a road with half his body submerged in what seems like floodwater, taking food from someone, is doing the rounds on the internet.

The caption of the picture read, ‘Once in a while you come across such pictures and realise just how privileged you are, we are. Aftermath of cyclone Amphan, Bengal.’

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim to be false.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture on the India Development and Relief Fund website, dated July 12, 2013.

We also found the same picture shared on Facebook seven years ago on July 28, 2013.

NewsMobile could not independently verify the origin of the picture. But, the above information establishes the fact that the picture in question is old as it was already on the internet much before the cyclone hit West Bengal in 2020.
