The southern states are slowly reopening and, in this process, have witnessed chaos at airports and liquor shops. However, there is hope that the situation will settle down eventually.

1. Centre praises Chennai and Bengaluru for COVID-19 containment
The Union government on Monday praised the efforts of two southern Indian cities for their handling of the COVID-19 virus.

Chennai and Bengaluru were praised for ensuring a low mortality rate compared to other cities in the country. As per information, the cities have a mortality rate of less than 1%. The national average is about 3%.
2. Liquor shops reopen in Puducherry
Liquor shops in the Union Territory of Puducherry reopened after two months. While the rest of the country opened these shops, the union territory decided not to reopen them.
As seen in other cities, there were long queues that were witnessed. There was complete chaos and police had to be called in to control the tense situation.
3. Heat wave warning in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are on a state of high alert following intense heat wave like conditions in the two states.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the conditions may even cause the temperatures to rise up to 46 degrees in certain places.
4. TTD decision to sell temple property draws flak
The decision of the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthana board to sell some temple property to raise revenue for the state government has upset many devotees.
Many devotees have accused the state of grabbing ‘Hindu property’. The Board has still decided to go ahead with the sale.
5. Chaos across as flight services get canceled
The cancellation of many flights from Kochi and Chennai triggered complete chaos in these cities and many irate passengers lashed out at the government for not coordinating properly and making no sufficient arrangement of amenities.
