COVID-19: Top 10 developments in India this Sunday morning

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 90,927 while the death toll from Covid-19 has gone up to 2,872, according to the figures released by the Health Ministry today morning.

1. In past 24 hours, 4,987 new cases, the highest one-day jump, and 120 deaths were reported. The number of active coronavirus cases in the country stood at 53,946 while 34,108 have recovered. In past 24 hours, 3,956 recovered from coronavirus.

2. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Delhi have three out of every four cases in the country. Maharashtra reported 30,706 cases and 10988 followed by 10,585 in Tamil Nadu. The national capital has 9,333 cases.

3. The health ministry has told the government that 30 municipal areas, including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata which account for nearly 80% of India’s coronavirus cases, should have the maximum restrictions under lockdown 4.0 ground rules.

4. Union health secretary Preeti Sudan held a special meeting on Saturday with municipal and health officials from the 12 states where the 30 municipal corporations are located. The meeting discussed the high-risk factors and reviewed indices such as confirmation rate, fatality rate, doubling rate, tests per million for these places.

Sudan also updated the states about the health ministry’s new guidelines aimed at such urban settlements, particularly informal settlements such as Mumbai’s Dharavi slums.

5. Indian Railways has run 167 ‘shramik special’ trains yesterday carrying 2.39 lakh migrants to their home states: Rail Ministry of India.

6. Migrant workers in large numbers gather at Sahranpur-Ambala highway, demanding a special train to return to Bihar; police deployed at the site.

7. Migrants gather in large number in Gazipur at Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border on Sunday morning.

8. The Centre has launched an online dashboard to monitor and facilitate the smooth movement of migrant workers and their contact-tracing during lockdown across the country.

9. The last version of the lockdown that came into effect from May 4 had introduced considerable relaxations in districts that had not reported Covid-19 cases and eased restrictions elsewhere.
