COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Friday morning

With nearly 4,000 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total tally of the confirmed COVID-19 cases now nears the 82,000 mark.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this Friday morning-

1. India reported 3,967 new COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths in last 24 hours.

2. The total number of confirmed positive cases in India now stands at 81,970 with a death toll of 2,649.
– Active cases: 51,401
– Cured/discharged/migrated cases: 27,920

3. 145 Shramik trains were run and 2.10 lakh passengers were carried on Thursday, as per Ministry of Railways.

4. As per the instructions of the state government, special trains will be run for migrant labourers in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. The trains will be run from Dadri railway station & Dankaur Railway station. Four trains will ply for the migrant labourers on 16th May: DM, Gauatm Buddh Nagar.

5. Number of COVID-19 cases reache 4,589 in Rajasthan, with 55 more people testing positive today. Number of active cases and death toll stands at 1,818 and 125, respectively.

6. The portals of Badrinath Temple were opened today morning at 4:30 am, with about 28 people, including the chief priest, present on the occasion. The numbers were regulated as pilgrims were prohibited from visiting the shrine because of the COVID-19 lockdown.

7. Taking cognizance of reports that Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will charge Rs 10,000 for a taxi from Delhi Airport to Noida and Ghaziabad, the Corporation MD Raj Shekhar on Thursday informed that a committee has been formed to look into the matter.

The committee has been asked to submit a report within 24 hours.

8. Shops open in Amritsar, Punjab. State government has ordered that the shops in the state will remain open between 7 AM to 6 PM.

9. Out of the 708 samples tested yesterday for COVID-19, results of 7 are positive in Uttar Pradesh, said the King George’s Medical University (KGMU). The state has so far reported 3,902 COVID-19 cases which include 2,072 cured or discharged cases and 88 deaths.

10. West Bengal government should allow 105 ‘Shramik special trains’ every day for migrant labourers, and not in 30 days, said Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday.
