India has handed over essential medicines and Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to Myanmar to battle the deadly COVID-19.
Ambassador of India to Myanmar Saurabh Kumar handed over 200,000 hydroxychloroquine tablets, the anti-malarial drug being used for health workers fighting the virus on the frontlines.
Apart from these tablets, India also handed over surgical gloves, thermal scanners, body bags and minor surgical sets.

A statement issued by the Embassy of India in Yangon read: “The government of India stands in solidarity with the people and the government of Myanmar in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic”.
The contribution from India is a sign of the growing relationship between the two historic neighbours.
The Embassy said: “The contribution is indicative of the traditionally warm and friendly ties between India and Myanmar and would augment Myanmar’s determined efforts to fight the pandemic.”
The virus which originated in Wuhan has affected the entire world and India has carried out its own ‘medical diplomacy’ by providing medicines and equipment to various countries.
Myanmar presently has 161 cases and has reported 6 deaths due to coronavirus.
