COVID-19: Trump says ‘no’ to extension of social distancing norms; adds China wants to unseat him

Date:

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the social distancing norms will not be extended beyond Thursday and normal lives shall resume. He also added that China is trying to stop his re-election bid, even as the US economy’s growth rate shrunk by 4.8% in the first quarter of 2020.

“I don’t want people to get used to this. I see the new normal being what it was three months ago”.

The President will be visiting Arizona next week and also plans to visit Ohio and a medical equipment manufacturing facility in Phoenix.

“We are going to start to move around and hopefully in the not too distant future, we’ll have some massive rallies and people will be sitting next to each other.”

The decision not to extend the social distancing norms is one made by the Federal Government. The States will take their own call depending on their respective situations.

President’s advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner, however, predicted that the state of lockdown may be imposed yet again in the month of July due to the rising number of cases and causalities.

Trump, in an interview with Reuters, said that China’s handling of the virus outbreak indicated that “they will do anything they can” to make him lose the November election.

“They’re constantly using public relations to try to make it like they’re innocent parties,” he said.

When asked if the US is considering additional tariffs, he said that all options were open.

The President also dismissed reports that suggested that Democrat Joe Biden was ahead of him in the approval ratings.
