COVID-19: Key takeaways from Health Ministry’s daily briefing

Lockdown and containment measures are important to fight COVID19, the Health Ministry said in his daily briefing on Saturday, adding that, if we had not taken any measures then we might have had 8.2 lakh cases at this time.

Here are the key takeaways from today’s briefing: 

– Home Ministry has written again to states and UTs today, asking them to provide necessary police security to doctors and medical staff in hospitals during screening and in quarantine facilities: Punya Salila Srivastava, Joint Secretary, HMO.

– 1,71,718 samples have been tested so far, including 16,564 on Friday. Of 16564 samples tested yesterday, 14210 samples tested in ICMR labs: Dr R R Gangakhedka of ICMR said.

– Rise of 1,035 cases and 40 deaths reported in the last 24 hours across the country.

– There are 586 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals with over one lakh isolation beds. This number of going up: Lav Agarwal Joint Secretary, Health Ministry said.

– India’s response to COVID19 has been proactive. We have followed a graded approach.

– Post lockdown the growth rate is down to 29%; we have 7447 cases today it would have been 45000 without lockdown. Would have been 2 lakh without any measures: Lav Agarwal
