Did India make demands from the U.S. in exchange for exporting Hydroxychloroquine? Here’s the truth

Claims have been circulating online stating that India has asked the U.S. for the following, in exchange for anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ):

  • Unrestricted Access to USA market for its Pharma companies
  • Lift all bans levied by US FDA
  • FDA will not harass Indian Pharma companies

The claims further state that the US has agreed to all of India’s demands in just 24 hours.

The original post was tweeted by an account holder by the name of Rishi Bagree, who claims to be “an ordinary tax-paying citizen.”

It has been liked more than 18,000 times and retweeted nearly 7,000 times.

We fact-checked the above post and found it to be false.

When we checked the verified news sources for any such information, we didn’t find any proof to support the claims.

We then researched about Rishi Bagree, the original post creator, to confirm his credibility. We found a news article referring to the suspension of Bagree’s Twitter account on previous occasions for spreading misinformation.

Thirdly, we scrolled through the Twitter thread where Bagree has created this post. He mentions in a comment that he cannot reveal the source of this information.

It is hence evident that this is not a credible or verified news source, and the claims are false.
