COVID-19: Helpline number for virus gets request for food; callers pay hefty fine

The Rampur District Administration in Uttar Pradesh has a fresh challenge in tackling the deadly coronavirus.

The call centre helplines established to tackle Coronavirus are getting flooded with calls of different nature. The numbers has been receiving requests to serve samosas, cooked meals and even paan.

District Magistrate Ajani Kumar Singh decided to deal the situation in an innovative manner as he not only fined people but also made the offenders do some community service such as clearing drains etc.

He shared a picture of an offender cleaning the drains on the Twitter account and said that he has been fined Rs 500.

In the last five days, the administration collected Rs 2 lakh as fines.

He also said that many offenders tried calling to check the working of the system and when the workers reached their destination, they found out that it was a prank.

The administration has also set up call centres at the Tehsil, sub-District and District level to deal with the outbreak of this virus.

Rampur administration has issued eight helpline numbers which include two mobile phone numbers and three WhatsApp numbers.
