Super cop SN Shrivastava appointed Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi: Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) SN Shrivastava has been appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner on Friday and he will succeed Amulya Patnaik on March 1.

The officer has held diverse posts in a career spanning across 35 years and is known to be a believer of smart policing and ensuring people’s welfare remains the top priority of the force he heads.

Shrivastava is an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the 1985 batch and belongs to the AGMUT Cadre (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories).

He was on deputation to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as a Special Director General rank officer before being posted as the Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) to deal with the riots that have engulfed the North-eastern part of the city from last Sunday.

As the Special Director General (DG) of the Kashmir Zone, CRPF, he is known to have effectively tackled the stone pelting mobs and restored the confidence of the people in the police force.

He is considered to be an expert on counter-terrorism and has headed the Special cell of the Delhi police and has cracked various cases pertaining to the Indian Mujahedeen (IM) and has also busted various sleeper cells in the national capital.

It is this experience of his that will help him restore the law and order situation in the national capital that has in the past few months spiraled out of control due to protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and before that due to clashes between the Police and the Advocates.

He has also served as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic (JCP-Traffic) in New Delhi and was responsible for transforming the department and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic across the city.

His immediate priority will be in ensuring the restoration of public confidence in the police force and setting the law and order situation right in the national capital.

He also will have to ensure that the police personnel’s grievances are addressed effectively.

The latest crime record figures released by the National Crime Records Bureau, 2017 has revealed an increase in the number of crimes in Delhi, especially those pertaining to crimes against women.
