India rejects unwanted reference to J&K, EAM says Indian democracy is capable of settling it

Date:

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday rejected the unwanted reference to the issue of Jammu and Kashmir made by a US senator and said that Indian democracy is strong enough to settle the issue.

During a discussion at the Munich Security Conference 2020, US Senator Lindsey Graham, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, said that:

“when it comes to Kashmir, I don’t know how it ends, but let us make sure, two democracies will end it differently”.

The External Affairs Minister immediately responded saying:

“Don’t worry senator. One democracy will settle it, and you know which one.”

This is yet another rejection of third party interference in the issue of Jammu and Kashmir by India and it has firmly established this position.

The External Affairs Minister also questioned the effectiveness of the United Nations (UN) system. Calling for reforms in the system, he said that an outdated system doesn’t augur well for the international community and there is an urgent need to reform the international system.

He also slammed the European community’s attitude and old way of dealing with things. He said that they need to move beyond the system of alliances and look for genuine partners in the fast moving world and a changing global order.
