Hyderabad police cracks the whip on traffic violations

Hyderabad Traffic Police on Tuesday released some statistics pertaining to traffic violations that were taken cognizance of in the month of January.

According to the police, 2,254 people were booked by the Hyderabad Traffic police during checks against drunken driving, out of which 290 were sent to prison.

A total of 22 people lost their lives due to road accidents in the ‘pearl city’, of whom 12 were bikers riding without helmets.

The traffic police filed charge-sheets against all of the traffic violations and produced those accused in front of the third and fourth metropolitan magistrates’ courts in Nampally. They were then handed over prison sentences varying from one to 11 days. Driving licences of two individuals were also cancelled and in one case it was cancelled for six months.

The police have also said that a total of Rs 2.25 crores were collected and those convicted of offences were sent to the Chanchalguda Central Jail.

Speaking about this, Additional Commissioner of Police Anil Kumar said: “The respondent who were convicted in drunken driving and other traffic violations may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance”.

The Hyderabad traffic police also said that the violators were counselled at Traffic Training Institute in Gshamahal and Begumpet in the city.
