Video of cops thrashing women is NOT from CAA protest in Varanasi; here’s the fact check

A video has surfaced on social media in which cops can be seen thrashing women. It has been claimed that the video is from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi and the police were beating up women protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC.

The caption in Hindi Read:

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above tweet and found the claims attached to the video to be FAKE.

On closely watching the video at 00:21 minute of the video we could see Pakistani flag on the uniform.

We then extracted the keyframes of the video and on putting them through Reverse Image Search, we found a video on YouTube dated June 26, 2019. The headline of the video read: “Punjab Police beaten women in #multan – police beaten women in court”

On digging further we found that the viral video is from Punjab province of Pakistan.
