The Army showcased its military might and some of its state-of-the-art assets at the majestic Army Day parade on Wednesday.
Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, Army Chief Gen M M Naravane, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh were present on the occasion.
Breaking the glass ceiling, Captain Tania Shergill from the Corp of Signals, becomes the first female to lead an all men contingent at the Army Day Parade.
Commissioned in March, 2017, from the Officer Training Academy, Chennai, Shergill is an electronics and communications graduate.

Her father Capt Surat Singh Shergill was a short service commissioned officer in the Artillery Regiment. Shergill’s grandfather served in the Scinde Horse Regiment, while here great grandfather was in the Sikh Regiment.
In 2019 during Republic Day parade, Captain Bhavna Kasturi was the first woman officer to lead an all-men contingent.
The Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year to mark Lt Gen K M Cariappa taking over as commander-in-chief of the Indian Army in 1949 from General Francis Butcher, the last British commander-in-chief of India.
This is the 72nd Army Day and it is the first time that a chief of defence staff is attending it.
