Fact Check: This picture of a boy kicking Amar Jawan memorial is OLD

Date:

As both the houses of the Parliament passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, resulting in a countrywide protest, several pictures started making rounds on social media.

One such picture is of a boy in a skull cap kicking Amar Jawan memorial.

” क्या ये काफ़ी नही ईनकी मानसिकता दिखाने के लिए 😕
और कुछ लोग ईन्ही की तरफदारी कर रहे हैं !!, ” the caption read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture and found that it is old.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found an NDTV article dated August 14, 2012.  The title of the article was “Have you seen the rioters who vandalised the Amar Jawan memorial?”

According to the article, the picture was clicked by Mid-Day’s photographer  Atul Kamble during a protest at Azad Maidan. The memorial, unveiled in 2009, was erected in memory of two sepoys — Sayyed Hussein and Mangal Cadiya — who were martyred during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

The above information proves that the picture is old.
