The Supreme court has said that it will not stop the construction of the metro shed in Aarey colony of Mumbai.
A bench headed by Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta gave a go ahead for the project after the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the Brihan Mumbai Municipal corporation assured the bench that further felling of trees wasn’t required for the project to go ahead and a status quo was being maintained following the apex court’s order earlier this month.

The Supreme Court has asked for pictures from the site and more details from the civil agency and has posted the matter for further hearing in November.
The civic body had cut more than 2000 trees from October 4th to 6th following the go ahead they received from the Bombay High Court. The Supreme Court had then stayed the further felling of trees till a further hearing on October 21st.
The issue came to dominate the Maharashtra polls in the city of Mumbai with the candidate from Worli Assembly constituency, Shiv Sena scion Aaditya Thackeray even threatening to punish the officials who were involved with this project. As always, a court order from both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court made little difference to the party that has been controlling the city by muscle power.
