Pramod Kumar Mishra has been appointed as the new Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, effective September 11, Wednesday.
A Gujarat cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer belonging to the 1972 batch, Mishra will replace Nripendra Misra, who resigned last month.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. P.K. Mishra, currently functioning as Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister with effect from 11th September, 2019,” Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions said in a statement.
“His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the statement added.
Mishra was the additional principal secretary to the Prime Minister and was holding the rank of a Cabinet minister. Recently, Nripendra Misra had stepped down as the principal secretary to the Prime Minister.
Along with his appointment, the ACC has also approved the appointment of PK Sinha, currently functioning as OSD (Officer on Special Duty) in the Prime Minister’s Office, as Principal Advisor to Prime Minister with effect from 11 September 2019.
His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
