Premier League: Man Utd held to 1-1 by Southampton

Date:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United failed to win again as they were held to a 1-1 at the St.Mary’s Stadium against Southampton.

Coming at the back of a 2-1 loss at home to Crystal Palace and a 1-1 at Wolves, United dropped Jesse Lingard, with Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial out injured.

Southampton whereas, were coming into the game after a 2-1 loss to European Champions Liverpool at home. They were without Nathan Redmond.

It was Daniel James who scored in the first half for United, scoring his third in four games this season. He also matched Alexis Sanchez’s league tally for the club.

In the second half, it was Victor Lindelof’s missed header that saw Jannick Vestergaard head in the equaliser for the Saints.

Kevin Danso was sent off for a second bookable offense, allowing United a way into the game. But despite the pressure that United put, Southampton held onto a crucial point.

This was United’s second consecutive draw at Southampton, following their 2-2 last season. A fortnight after that game, Jose Mourinho was sacked as the United manager.
