No! Nirmala Sitharaman did not say BJP distributed 35,000 crore LED bulbs

Date:

A picture post has surfaced on the internet in which a claim is being made that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claimed that BJP government distributed 35,000 crore LED bulbs under Ujala Scheme, during her Budget speech.

(Translation: 35,000 crore LED bulbs were distributed to 125 crore people of the country … i.e. about 280 bulbs from every person in the country …. I did not get my bulbs, did you get your LED bulbs)

FACT CHECK

When the fact-checking team at NewsMobile did a fact check, we found that the claim is FAKE.

When we watched the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget speech, at 1:06:47, she can be heard saying “approximately 35 crore LEDs have been distributed under Ujala Yojana”.

Hence, it proves that Nirmala Sitharaman claimed 35 crore bulbs are distributed, not 35,000 crore.
