Amid trade differences between the United States and India, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will arrive in India on Tuesday for talks with government leaders.
During his three-day visit, Pompeo will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday.
Jaishankar will also host a lunch for Mike Pompeo. The two leaders are expected to lay the ground for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the week at a G20 meeting in Japan.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes in the backdrop of heightened trade tensions between the countries, both of which are trying to promote domestic manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the two countries also have differences over Russian arms sales to India and US sanctions on China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.
Amid growing concern over Pakistan’s lack of action against terror groups targeting India, the bilateral meeting is likely to focus on the issue of terrorism. India will being to Pompeo’s focus the fact that Pakistan has not moved ahead in its investigations on the Mumbai, Pathankot, Uri and Pulwama attacks.
