Veteran actor Dinyar Contractor passes away

Veteran actor Dinyar Contractor, 79 passed away on Wednesday morning due to old age related illness. He will be cremated at Worli prayer hall in Mumbai at 3:30 pm.

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and shared condolence message. He wrote, “Padma Shri Dinyar Contractor was special because he spread lots of happiness. His versatile acting brought smiles on several faces. Be it theatre, television or films, he excelled across all mediums. Saddened by his demise. My thoughts are with his family and admirers.”

 

Dinyar Contractor was part of many popular Bollywood movies like ‘Baazigar’, ’36 China Town’,’Khiladi’ and ‘Baadshah’. He also had a glowing television career. Initially, he was a theatre artist and would usually act in Gujarati and Hindi plays.

Contractor, was also awarded with a Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in 2019. President Ramnath Kovind presented him with the prestigious award.

Contractor started young was acting since he was in school and began his professional career in 1966. He started working on television programs with Adi Marzban when Mumbai Doordarshan launched the DD-2 channel in Mumbai with Aao Marvao Meri Saathe, a Gujarati program.
