In what could be good news for technology enthusiasts, Apple will launch the second-generation AirPods truly wireless earbuds on March 25.
According to reports, the AirPods 2 hardware reveal will happen alongside the global reveal of Apple’s long-rumoured news subscription service as well as its Netflix and Amazon Video rival video streaming service at the Steve Jobs Theatre.
Although the March 25 keynote was supposed to focus entirely on services, Apple might just also have some new hardware to share – since Apple is yet to confirm any of this, we suggest you take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.
The original AirPods were launched in 2016 alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus – both of which came without a headphone jack. For over two years, Apple loyalists have been waiting for a successor even as rival Samsung continues to update its competing product, aka the Gear Icon (now Galaxy Buds) ceremoniously every year.

Apple has been rumoured to launch the AirPods 2 sometime in 2019, only now we have a date associated with it. Not a lot is known about the AirPods 2 for now, although it is speculated to come with an improved grip courtesy a new coating and hands-free “Hey Siri” capabilities – it is also said to come in black in addition to the standard white that most Apple (including the original AirPods) are known for. New health and fitness-centric sensors are also said to be on the cards.
No new iPhone is expected at Apple’s purported March 25 event, but the company may announce price and availability of its long-delayed AirPower wireless charging mat.
The star of the show, however, would be services – with Apple expected to kick off its news subscription service and the much-hyped video streaming service to take on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Apple is said to be investing as much as $1 billion to produce in-house original content and has tied up with industry majors like Oprah Winfrey, M. Night Shyamalan and Steven Spielberg (and others), for the same.
