PM Modi inaugurates first-ever university in Ladakh region

PM Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and lay foundation stones for various development projects in Leh.

While inaugurating the University of Ladakh, the first-ever university in the region, PM Modi said that students of Leh-Ladakh will get all opportunities in Leh-Ladakh and they won’t need to move out of the region.

“The 40% of the total population in Ladakh is young students. All of you have been seeking a university here for a long time. Your demand has also been completed today, ” he said.


It will be a cluster university comprising degree colleges of Leh, Kargil, Nubra, Zanskar, Drass and Khaltsi. The administrative office will also remain in Leh and Kargil for the convenience of students, he said.

Addressing the people, PM Modi said, “The difficult conditions you live in and counter all the difficulties, it is a great inspiration for me to work for you dedicatedly. The affection you extend towards me, I will repay that through development.”

He also said these projects will boost the tourism of Leh – Ladhak.

The Prime Minister will also go to Jammu where he will be addressing a public rally besides laying the foundation stone of several developmental projects including two AIIMS  at Vijaypur and Awantipora.
