The crucial Jind by-election results in Haryana were declared on Thursday. BJP candidate Krishan Middha emerged victorious defeating Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate Digvijay Chautala and Congress’ Randeep Singh Surjewala.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the seat by over 12,000 votes. The BJP’s Krishan Lal Middha got about 50,000 votes against over 37,000 votes secured by Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate Digvijay Singh Chautala. Congress’ heavyweight candidate Randeep Singh Surjewala managed to get a little more than 22,000 votes.

21 candidates, including two women, had contested the bypoll, which were held on January 28.
A healthy voter turnout of 75.77% was reported in the by-election to the Jind assembly constituency.
As celebrations began in the BJP camp, Mr Surjewala conceded defeat and said he hoped the new legislator would do everything possible to develop Jind.

Krishan Middha is the son of late Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Hari Chand Middha.
