Kerala becomes first state with four international airports

Date:

Kerala has been declared as the first state in India with four international airports upon the inauguration of the recent Kannur Airport yesterday, inaugurated by Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala and Suresh Prabhu, the Union Civil Aviation Minister. They jointly flagged off the first Air India Express flight with 186 passengers from Kerala to Abu Dhabi.

The Kannur airport is spread across 2000 acres and can accommodate 2000 passengers at one time. All the four international airports are deployed for to and fro Gulf bound flights.

Besides Kannur, the three other international airports in Kerala are in Kochi, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram. A tweet was also found on the official Twitter handle of the CMO of Kerala upon the inauguration of the airport.

The Kannur Airport showcases cultural traditions of the state. Mural paintings on the walls depict the rich heritage of Malabar as well as the dance forms of India. It is built on a public-private collaboration or public-private partnership model which is the new way in which airports will be constructed within India from now.
