J&K Governor sparks controversy; says Delhi would have forced me to make Sajjad Lone CM

Date:

New Delhi: Days after dissolving the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, state’s governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday in a shocking revelation said that he would have been forced to make J&K Peoples Conference president Sajjad Lone as the new CM had he ‘looked towards Delhi’.

Speaking at an event, the former Governor of Bihar defended his decision to not allow the coalition of PDP, NC and Congress to form the government before mentioning that he didn’t buckle under the pressure from Delhi.

“I believe this is lack of knowledge, and we should not even look at it. What should we look at is that on the very day, I would repeat, that on the same day Omar and Mehbooba were saying that we will emerge victorious, they wanted to dissolve the assembly. Assembly got dissolved and they won. And they also won on the fact that another person (Sajjad Lone) was on the verge of forming the government, but he couldn’t. And I would like to make it clear once again, that if I would have looked towards Delhi, I would’ve been forced to form Lone’s govt and I would have gone on to be remembered as a dishonest man in the annals of history. That’s why I ended the matter. Some will hurl abuses but I am convinced that I had done a good deed,” he said.

Malik’s statement has sparked a controversy in New Delhi which is came following a huge political slugfest broke out in the state of Jammu and Kashmir on November 21 after he decided to dissolve the assembly, quashing hopes of the newly-formed alliance of PDP, NC and Congress from forming the government.
