Sensex, Nifty tank, almost 1% lower on global cues

Date:

The stock markets on Thursday ended at the lowest level in seven months. The Sensex ended at 33,690, plunging 344 points, or 1.01%, while the Nifty ended at 10,125, dipping nearly 100 points, or 0.98% dragged by global selloff as well as domestic stocks like HDFC, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, L&T, SBI, Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank and Hindustan Unilever.

The negative sentiment started with a series of defaults at major non-banking financial company IL&FS sparked concerns of a liquidity crunch in the sector.

Asian shares also dipped today after tech stocks caused the largest daily decline on Wall Street since 2011 in the previous session, wiping out all its gains for the year.
