Apple executive allegedly shot dead by Lucknow cop

An Uttar Pradesh police officer was on patrol duty when he allegedly shot dead an assistant sales manager of Apple in self defence on late Friday night, the police said. Vivek Tewari was in his car with his friend when he rammed a police patrol motorcycle.

Constable Prashant Kumar who fired at the car, and his colleague Sandeep Kumar, were arrested after police registered an FIR on his female friend’s complaint.

“The constable (Prashant) fired in self defence believing that some criminals were inside the car as the victim tried to flee after hitting the patrol bike,” senior superintendent of police Kalanidhi Naithani said.

The incident took place around 1:30 AM in Lucknow’s Gomtinagar extension area. The vehicle then rammed the pillar of a bridge. More details are awaited.
