Meet one such person – Abheena Aher, Jury member and Speaker at SABERA. From being a subject of hate crimes in school to sex work on the Mumbai Railway tracks, software engineer Abheena has seen it all and is now the only transgender representing India at a global level. It is a story of extreme strife to triumph. She is truly #Likeaboss.
In her own words, Abheena Aher, the software engineer’s journey from sex worker to a global voice for the transgender community: Here
Though educated, Abheena was chastised by school and society for trying to find and be the person she was meant to be (many of us never do). Drawn into a shell with violence and victimization, she persevered to reach the global stage to effect change for a whole global community. Her message – to be the change, to allow people opportunity and treat them without discrimination is one for the world.
The awards are in two categories, Category-A for ‘Initiative/Work’ and Category-B for ‘Individual & Enterprise’. They highlight Individuals making a difference, CSR initiatives, Responsible Businesses, Social Enterprises, Non-Governmental initiatives and Not-for-Profit initiatives that make India a responsible nation.
