The first female auto-driver of Bhopal, Talat Jahan has emerged as an example of breaking all societal norms to create her own identity.
Talat had been a victim of domestic violence and dowry abuse, however, two months ago, she attained the driver’s seat after a proper training along with her mother in 2016. Their daily combined earnings used to be about Rs. 400 to Rs. 500.
Over the years, both of them have managed to save enough money and have now bought an auto-rickshaw with that money. They were even applauded by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who besides handing over the keys of the auto, sat in the vehicle for the first ride.
Talat now happily rides her vehicle around Bhopal and is the first female auto-driver in India making a decent living for herself from the money collected from passengers including men.
