Tempus, Groupon co-founder’s health startup hits $2 Billion valuation

A Chicago based company, Tempus, raised $110 million in its Series E financing. Tempus is a startup that uses data analytics to improve cancer treatment. With this fundraising, the company’s valuation has hit $2 billion. This is its third fundraise in Eleven months.

The company plans to extend its focus beyond oncology treatment, and into areas like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Tempus, till now, has raised $320 million since it was founded by Groupon co-founder and billionaire Eric Lefkofsky in 2015. The company has, to date, partnered with around 250 hospital systems and have collected 2 million clinical records. They want to work outside the U.S. in Europe, Australia and Asia.

In the last six months, the valuation has almost doubled. According to Pitchbook, the startup was valued at a little more than $1 billion following its Series D fundraise in March.
