It’s a Gold! Swapna Barman clinches Gold in Women’s Heptathlon

India’s Swapna Barman won a Gold in Women’s Heptathlon and made the country proud by clinching 11th Gold for India and taking the medal tally to 54. Swapna accumulated a total of 6026 points to claim the first position.

What is Heptathlon?

It is a track and field event which comprises of seven events. There are two types of  Heptathlon- Men’s and Women’s, both of them have different events. Men’s heptathlon is held indoor while the women’s is held outdoors.

The seven event that it comprises are:

  • 100 metres hurdles
  • High jump
  • Shot put
  • 200 metres
  • Long jump
  • Javelin throw
  • 800 metres
