In a rare occurrence the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, while felicitating Harivansh Narayan on winning the election for the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha, were expunged.
Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday expunged certain remarks made by the Prime Minister in the Upper House as they were found to be “objectionable”.

The remarks referred to the opposition candidate BK Hariprasad, who was contesting for the post of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman. It was a pun on his name ‘BK Hariprasad’ after the prime minister said contest was between two ‘Haris.’ Modi made the comment while felicitating the newly elected Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Thursday.
The remarks were expunged when some members made a demand in this regard, according to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. On Thursday Naidu had said that he would look into the remarks and see if there was something objectionable.
Remarks made by the Prime Minister are rarely expunged.
Hariprasad said it was unfortunate that the Prime Minister had lowered the dignity of the House.
