Sri Lankan court orders release of 16 Indian fishermen

New Delhi: The Oorkavalthurai Court (Jaffna) in Sri Lanka has ordered the release of 16 Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were arrested recently for crossing the maritime boundary.

Earlier, the 16 fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on July 5 and July 8 for illegally entering Sri Lanka and violating the territorial waters.

Fishermen from both the countries are being apprehended on a regular basis for breaching each other’s territorial waters or doing suspicious activities.
