Haryana Govt’s order on Athletes’ earnings put on hold

Gurugram: In a bizarre move Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar led Haryana Government has asked the athletes hailing from the state to pay 33% of their earnings to the state government.

Players are opposing government’s diktat and planning a protest against the government.

“Does the government even realize how much of hard work a sportsperson puts in? How can they ask for one-third of the income? I do not support this at all. Govt should’ve at least discussed it with us,” Wrestler Babita Phogat said.

A large chunk of athletes are coming from the state of Haryana making India proud at international level in various sports like Wrestling, Boxing, Kabaddi, etc.

In fact, players hailing from Haryana bagged 9 out 22 medals from Haryana in recent Common Wealth Games.

Update:

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday asked the state government to put on hold the order which would require athletes to hand over a third of their earnings to the state.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Khattar said, “I have asked for the relevant file of Sports Department to be shown to me & the notification dated 30th April to be put on hold till further orders.We are proud of the immense contribution by our sportspersons & I assure them of a just consideration of all issues affecting them.”
